Polish national Piotr Rownicki admitted seven sexual assaults involving six women on Dublin buses over more than four years. One victim recognised him when he targeted her a second time, leading to CCTV identification and the wider investigation.
A repeated method
Reporting describes a pattern between January 2007 and May 2011: Rownicki sat beside women despite other seats being available, concealed his actions with a jacket, touched their legs and performed a sexual act on himself. One woman encountered him twice.
The repeat victim who identified him
In May 2011, the woman recognised Rownicki when he sat beside and assaulted her again on the number 37 bus. She alerted Garda officers. CCTV led to his arrest and investigators connected him to five additional women. Reporting says he moved from denial and claims of accidental contact to accepting a sexual motive.
